Hamas Appeals for Global Support to Stop Israel, Saying They Intend to Kill Us with Bombs and Hunger

In a recent statement, Hamas has issued a stark condemnation of an Israeli attack targeting the Gaza aid committee. The incident, which occurred at the Kuwaiti roundabout in southern Gaza City, has been described by Hamas as a blatant display of the Israeli government's cruelty.

According to a report by Al Jazeera, The statement from Gaza's ruling entity further emphasized the unity and resolve of the Palestinian people. "Our Palestinian people, their tribes, and all their forces will move forward united to block this criminal enemy and his terrorist replacement plans," it declared.

In a direct appeal to the global community, Hamas has called for immediate action. "We Call on World Bodies to Curb Israel, Which Is Intent on Killing Our People, Through Bombing and Starvation," says Hamas, urging international and regional organizations to fulfill their legal and moral obligations.

The group accuses Israel of engaging in acts of aggression that are tantamount to sadism, with tactics ranging from "barbaric bombing" to the implementation of starvation as a weapon—all carried out in the open for the world to see.

This plea underscores the dire situation in Gaza and the urgent need for international intervention to prevent further loss of life and suffering.

It just remind that all mortals are worthless

“Who can discern what the Lord wills?”
A reading from the Book of Wisdom (Wisdom 9: 13-18b)

What man can learn the counsel of God? Or who can discern what the Lord wills? For the reasoning of mortals is worthless, and our designs are likely to fail, for a perishable body weighs down the soul, and this earthy tent burdens the thoughtful mind. We can hardly guess at what is on earth, and what is at hand we find with labour; but who has traced out what is in the heavens? Who has learned your counsel, unless you have given wisdom and sent your Holy Spirit from on high? And thus the paths of those on earth were set right, and men were taught what pleases you.

Atiku Under Pressure To Break Wike’s Camp’s Ranks

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, is under pressure to break the rank of the camp of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

The camp of Governor Wike has the support of some PDP Governors who have placed demands before Atiku to gain their support in the 2023 general elections.

Sources close to Atiku that spoke with The Nation revealed that the former presidential candidate is planning to meet with members of Wike’s camp one on one.

The source expressed confidence that two governors in the camp of the Rivers State Governor are giving positive signs to Atiku.

The source said, “Since the reconciliation talks with Wike have been unstable, Atiku has initiated personal talks with those in Wike’s camp.

“Even within Wike’s group, there are also individual interests. Atiku has said he is ready to work with everybody for the success of the party.

“So far, so good, there have been positive responses from these leaders including two serving governors, some ex-governors and leaders at various levels.

“You can call it talks within talks. But the personal reconciliation moves will not affect the ongoing negotiation with Wike’s camp.”

Presidential Candidate Blows Hot

Presidential Candidate Blows Hot, Refuse To Acknowledge Suspension

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, has spoken about his suspension by the party.

Recall that Naija News earlier reported that the National Working Committee (NWC), headed by the chairman of the party, Ralph Nwosu, had suspended Kachikwu from the party for alleged anti-party activities.

However, reacting to the suspension In a statement on Saturday in Abuja, Kachikwu said that he still remains the presidential candidate of the party.

Kachikwu asserted that Nwosu was responsible for the crack in the party.

He said: “For those who do not know, Nwosu is the longest serving chairman of a political party in the history of Nigeria.

“He has been serving for the past 17 years, you must understand that this is contrary to the provision of the constitution of the ADC which says that a chairman of the ADC can hold a position maximum for consecutive periods of two terms of four years each.

“For some reasons best known to INEC, we do not know how Nwosu was able to hold on to that position for the past 17 years.

“He (Mr Nwosu) reached me directly and indirectly pleading for us to extend his tenure.

“Since his tenure has lapsed it is only the National Executive Council (NEC), made up of state chairmen of the party, which has the power to run the affairs of the party and take decisions.

“That was why the elements behind my purported suspension sent out an unsigned document to the media since none of them has any mandate to take any legal action on behalf of the ADC having ended their tenure since August 28.”

The embattled ADC flag bearer argued that his purported suspension was due to his stance that the party constitution must be upheld.

“I told them that as the presidential candidate of the party I will do everything to uphold the constitution of the ADC,”Kachikwu said.

2023: What else can Peter Obi do to win?

By Miftaudeen Raji

The 2023 presidential election is less than 177 days away and the momentum is growing for the candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi. Will it be enough to pull a surprise victory in the 2023 presidential election? It becomes imperative to examine what else Obi can do to make such a victory might happen.

As a matter of fact, Obi needs to win to prove that his millions of online-savvy supporters are real and up to the task. The criteria for winning the political contest are always in place, but the challenge is how to seize the opportunity to take power at the centre.

As the September 28 flag-off date for presidential campaign approaches, the Obi-dients need to sustain the existing momentum tempo perfectly till February 2023 to be able to spring surprises at the poll.

Until recently, many underestimated Obi’s dexterity in comparative socio-economics; his will to bring a change in governance; and the support he enjoys from young Nigerians. Many leaders have claimed to have achieved a lot while trying to fix the problem of Nigeria, but obvious metrics suggested they have sorely failed.

The Labour Party candidate already stands a chance of winning the 2023 presidential election, but here are some few other things that he still needs to put into consideration.

Harnessing the diaspora support base

Already, Obi galvanizing the campaign with outreach to the diaspora community, with series of visits to the US, Toronto, Germany and still counting.

Obi needs to accelerate engagement with the diaspora community to garner more support from groups, business community, students network and professionals and committees to spearhead more initiatives for the Party and Obi presidency.

He needs to interface with patriotic Nigerians clamouring to contribute to the success of the party and the growth of the course. But, an integral part of the course is the necessity to have the earmarked programmes well coordinated.

The party has a huge role to play in identifying well-meaning Nigerians from the place of integrity to drive this project to achieve the desired goal.

Raising momentum for fund raising :

To meet the needs of a perceived structure of Obi built around 100 million hungry Nigerians and 35 million unemployed persons, including unpaid pensioners, funding is key to provide the enabling resources for these structures to carry the burden of national election for the Labour party in 2023.

But, to achieve this goal, the party has set action in motion for Obi, with the National Chairman of Labour party, Bar. Julius Abure recently inaugurating an eleven-man diaspora committee to generate about $150m, N100bn crowdfunding for the Presidential Campaign of Peter Obi.

While the party and Obi supporters keep raising money to fund campaign and election operations ahead of 2023, stakeholders have to ensure adequate monitoring of the activities of the organized fundraising activities and donations to the party.

We’ll help PDP lose in 2023, Wike replies Ayu

We’ll help PDP lose in 2023, Wike replies Ayu

National Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Iyorchia Ayu

• George insists party chairman must come to South, calls on Obasanjo, IBB, Abubakar to prevail on Ayu to resign
• Jonathan can’t save you, PDP mocks Tinubu
• PDP to unveil campaign council next week

The war of words between the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike and his party’s national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu is not abating. And it may not any time soon.

Only yesterday, Wike threatened to assist the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lose the 2023 presidential election. He spoke at the commissioning of a road in Omerelu community of Ikwerre Council.

The governor was responding to Wednesday’s comments by Ayu that those asking him to step down were children.

In an interview with BBC Hausa, Ayu had said: “I have not violated any rule; in fact, I am working to bring reforms to the party. I am truly not bothered by the unnecessary controversy being generated. When we started PDP, these children were not around. They are children who do not know why we formed the party. We will not allow any individual to destabilise our party.”

However, in his response, Wike described Ayu as a ‘greedy’ man who was only after his interest. He said it was obvious that Ayu wanted the PDP to lose in 2023 and he was willing to assist him achieve that.

According to Wike, “you can imagine what power can do. You can imagine the ingratitude, how people can be ingrates in their lives. I thought as chairman of a party, which wants to win elections, your business is to bring peace to your party.” He continued, “your business is not to divide your party, nor to show arrogance to your party.

“Yes, the children brought you to be chairman of the party. The children brought you to make you chairman. Ayu, you were impeached as Senate President. Ayu, you were sacked by President Obasanjo in his administration as minister twice. Arrogance cannot take you anywhere. Now we have seen that you don’t want the party to win election, we will help you.

“Ayu, you said you founded this party, but you left the party in 2007. You founded a company, you left the company, people stood and brought up the company to what it is today, you have no moral right to still come and claim that you founded that company, you left with your shares. You abandoned PDP at one time, moved to another party and therefore cannot have equal stake with those who stayed back to rebuild the party.

“You must show integrity, as you sell our party to Nigerians that we want to take over power. You must therefore convince Nigerians that we have the integrity to do so. You are the driver that will drive the vehicle to convey us to go our destination. If the driver has no integrity and cannot show honesty, how do you convince Nigerians? If you tell Nigerians something and cannot do it, is it when you enter into power that you will do it?”

Wike explained that Ayu had, by self-volition, promised to relinquish his chairmanship as a Northerner if an aspirant from the North emerges as presidential candidate of the PDP. The governor told Ayu to be a man of honour and keep his promise by relinquishing that position.

Performing the inauguration of the project, former Southwest Deputy National Chairman of PDP, Chief Olabode George, declared that the issue of the national chairman must be addressed before commencement of campaign for 2023 general elections.

According to the life member of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Ayu’s utterances show he is ‘immature’.

“When a serving national chairman of our party is calling elected governors children, does he think that children don’t grow? We need to watch our language. It shows to me that it is him who is immature,” he said.

George aligned with Wike that Ayu should vacate his position for a Southerner to occupy. “We are not begging for it; we demand it, because it is our right,” he declared.

He argued that it is unfair that the PDP chairman; presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar; and PDP BoT chairman, Walid Jibrin, are all from the North.

“It is an antithesis and against the norm and culture of PDP for those positions to be occupied by persons from one section of the country. Party members from the South are already feeling alienated. PDP is not a private company. So, before we start the presidential campaign at the end of this month, the national chairman must go to the South. That is what Governor Wike is saying and as a life member of the BoT of our party, I support this position 100 per cent.”

George also called on former President Olusegun Obasanjo, erstwhile military Head of States, Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, to channel whatever agenda they have towards saving Nigeria’s political dispensation in 2023 by appealing to Ayu to immediately resign and allow a candidate from the South to step in.

George, while reacting to the meeting among the trio held in Minna, Niger State, this week, said: “Such agenda, especially by Chief Obasanjo, should focus on how to save the soul of PDP, the platform that made him president in 1999 to 2007. Generals Babangida and Abubakar should also be concerned because of the roles they played previously in the party.

“The three former leaders should realise that the biggest threat confronting Nigeria today is the arrogance of power, which some people from a section of the country within the PDP are demonstrating. It is totally unacceptable for the Northern stakeholders to produce the presidential candidate, national chairman, BoT chairman and other sensitive positions. PDP will lose the 2023 election if it dares goes into this election with the current structure.”

MEANWHILE, PDP has berated the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for parleying with former President Goodluck Jonathan, saying that the move will not help the candidate next year.

PDP, in a statement by the party’s national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, were trying to clean up their past misdeeds against Nigerians, by having a meeting with the former president.

Ologunagba added that Tinubu and the APC vilified the Jonathan administration in the build-up to the 2015 election but are now distancing themselves from the abysmal performance of the Buhari-led administration, arguing that the APC candidate is trying to hoodwink Nigerians, by using photo opportunity with the former president ahead of next year’s election.

He said: “Nigerians are scandalised over the disgraceful and hypocritical attempt by Tinubu and other APC leaders to distance themselves from President Muhammadu Buhari over the abysmal failure of the Buhari-led administration in which they are principal actors.

“Nigerians have not forgotten how Tinubu callously vilified Dr. Jonathan, spewed hate against his administration and reportedly funded a near riotous protest, which was inflamed by concocted economic lies, propaganda, and false statistics to discredit the Jonathan-led PDP administration.”

Ologunagba added that “Nigerians can equally recall how Shettima, as governor of Borno State, sabotaged and frustrated Jonathan’s administration in its effort to curb insecurity in Borno.

“What is expected of APC leaders at this moment is to apologise unreservedly to Jonathan, the PDP, and Nigerians for the life-discounting situation they have foisted on our nation in the last seven years. After that, they should quietly quit the stage, take valedictory pictures with terrorists, political thugs and election riggers since they cannot have any space among well-meaning Nigerians,” the PDP said.

AMID the crises rocking the PDP, it is set to unveil its campaign council. And as a prelude to the unveiling of its campaign council, the meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) is being planned to hold next week.

The PDP, in a press conference addressed by Ologunagba, made it clear that all party leaders were concerned about how the party could win the 2023 general elections to enable it rescue Nigerians from the current socio-economic decay.

Ologunagba stated that issues of insecurity, economic woes ravaging the country are more worrisome.

According to Ologunagba, the task of rescuing Nigeria from the socio-economic decay is a subject that all leaders of the party had agreed on.

He disclosed that in a matter of days, the PDP would announce its national campaign council, which would be comprised of members from all segments of the party.

Ologunagba also said that the defection of many from APC to the opposition party across the country had confirmed the resolve by Nigerians to strengthen the PDP for a change in leadership next year

Kaduna residents appeal to government to review lockdown order

Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has fully recovered from coronavirus. 1

Some residents of Kaduna have appealed to the state government to review the lockdown extension announced on Sunday to enable low income earners do their business.

The residents made the appeal in separate interviews with newsmen in Kaduna on Tuesday.

They said that many of them who survived on daily incomes were now hungry with their families as a result of the lockdown.

The residents appealed to the state government for a review of the order.

A trader, Garba Saidu, said that government should look into other alternatives of preventing the spread of Covid-19 rather than the lockdown as palliatives were not reaching everybody.

“I’m not happy with the extension order despite the increase in number of cases in the state; the government should kindly think of other alternatives because of we, the low income earners.

“How can we be lockdown for almost two months? This is unfair.

“Government should please look for other means of curbing the spread of the virus.

“For example, people should be checked at the point of entry into the state or at worship places as well as banks,” he said.

Ummulkulthum Ahmed, an entrepreneur, said that people should be allowed to move within the state, while borders should be closed to any form of movement, rather than the lockdown.

She said that the wearing of face mask and social distancing should be made compulsory for all citizens and those found violating the order should be punished.

Abdulganiyyu Rayyan, a tailor, said that though he worked from home, he had neighbours who must go out before they earn money for their needs.

He said that people like them were not “the poorest of the poor” before the lockdown, but were now resorting to begging to survive.

He urged government to distribute palliatives that would sustain families for the period of the lockdown, adding that “without that it may be difficult for residents to obey the order.”

Another resident, Abbas Abdul, however, said that the extension was okay as it would help in preventing the spread of the virus and urged the residents to be patient

NECA lauds federal government for easing lockdown

NECA’s Director-General, Mr Timothy Olawale, who made the call on Tuesday in Lagos, called for more specific and direct business sustainability schemes, to save the private sector.

The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) on Wednesday commended the Federal Government for gradually winding down lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and FCT, to enable businesses come back to life after four weeks of total lockdown.

Its Director-General, Mr Timothy Olawale, who gave the commendation in a statement Lagos, said the move would balance safety of lives with safety of livelihood, survival of businesses and the economy.

Newsmen reports that President Muhammadu Buhari had on April 27 approved a phase and gradual easing of the lockdown measures in FCT, Lagos and Ogun effective from May 4 at 9 a.m.

“With the intervention, we believe the presidency intends to find a balance between promoting public health and moving toward sustaining the economy.

“As many businesses are on the brink of collapse and require a return to business quickly to stay afloat,” the director-general said.

Olawale said that for businesses to survive and protect their current employment trend, there was need for direct intervention such as direct wage or income support, wage subsidies as done in UK, France and Denmark.

According to him, such step will reduce the negative impact of the lockdown on businesses and slow the rate of job losses.

“Of more importance, the association calls for regular consultation with critical stakeholders and the Organised Private Sector for development of workable modalities in the gradual winding down of the lockdown.

“This is to know the challenges confronting businesses due to the lockdown and come up with friendlier approaches,” Olawale said.

The director-general called on governments at all levels to regularly review its guidelines and policies after consultations with critical stakeholders, especially the medical team.

He said that such review was to avoid a situation of a second wave of the pandemic, as in the Ghana and China experiences.

“Also, the Philadelphia experience of 1918 on the Spanish flu should also be noted to avoid a repeat of history.

“The association, therefore, called on Federal and State governments to put in place national guidelines to further prevent the spread of the virus,” Olawale said

Cross River reinforces no entry order at boundaries with neighbours

April 28, 2020
Gov. Ben Ayade of Cross River has directed applicants for the 8,000 automatic jobs to enlist through their respective village heads.

The Cross River Government on Tuesday reinforced it “no entry, no exit” directive with neighbouring states in a bid to ensure a COVID-19 free state.

Gov. Ben Ayade gave the directive while adressing security operatives and other support staff at Gakem-Benue Border on Tuesday in Gakem, Cross River.

The governor, who was represented by Mr Signor Idiege, Commissioner for Youth Development and Skills Acquisition, said his administration’s only concern was to keep Cross River and her residents safe from COVID-19.

Newsmen reports that the state as of April 27 has yet to record an index case of COVID-19.

The governor had recalled his aides assigned to different boundary posts, except the Itu Bridge Post, due to poor enforcement of the lockout.

Ayade said that the efforts must be sustained and supported without compromise.

“Nobody irrespective of status will be allowed to leave or come into the state through the Gakem-Benue boundary or any other.

“Since all the states bordering Cross River have cases of the Coronavirus, there must be strict adherence to boundary lockdown and other safety measures to remain safe,” he said

government’s insurance scheme for health workers

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari3

Nigerians have continued to hail President Muhammadu Buhari on the Federal Government’s welfare package for health workers as Nigeria continues to fight COVID-19.

Some lawyers in Lagos on Wednesday described the decision as encouraging, urging citizens’ cooperation in the fight.

They spoke with newsmen in Lagos.

Recall that Buhari had, in an address to the nation on Monday night, said that the government had signed a memorandum of understanding on the provision of hazard allowances and other incentives with key health sector professional associations.

”We have also procured insurance cover for 5,000 frontline health workers,” the president told Nigerians.

A human rights campaigner, Mr Kabir Akingbolu, told newsmen that the decision was commendable.

“One must commend the president for the innovation in the welfare of health workers, especially the insurance scheme,” he said.

He said that the scheme would give health workers the hope that in the event of any hazard in the line of duty, their families or themselves would have something to fall back on.

“Nigerians will be glad if this promise is kept.

“The president surely has lofty ideas and programmes to help the country out of the coronavirus pandemic.

“It is hoped that no saboteurs will be given chance to smear government name in this regard,” Akingbolu said.

He also hailed Federal Government’s continued restriction of interstate movement.

” This will go a long way to curb the pandemic.

“It is also noteworthy that the president’s speech recognised the danger inherent in social and religious gatherings.

“Also, Buhari’s resolve to take necessary steps to address Kano’s issue is a welcome idea.

“His recognition of state government’s rights to adapt or give necessary directives to ensure that the virus is properly tackled is praiseworthy” he added.

Mr Olakunle Fapohunda, also a lawyer, said that Nigerians should be patient and exercise more caution to curb the pandemic.

“Let us be reminded that the virus is still actively lying out there.

“Ideally, a total and longer lockdown should have been recommended and ordered, if the government can meet with people’s daily needs especially those that depend on daily income to survive,” he said.

Fapohunda applauded the president for efforts made for financial stimulus packages for small and medium scale enterprises.

”Nigerians earnestly await the manifestation of his directive, and we hope it will be transparent as he has said.

“There is a ray of hope for business activities in the commercial hubs of the nation now that the lockdown imposed on Lagos, Ogun and FCT would be eased by May 4,” he said.

NAN reports that Buhari had in the address also said that distribution of palliatives was still ongoing and in a transparent manner.

“I urge all potential beneficiaries to exercise patience as we continue to fine-tune distribution processes,” the president said
