Commander of Rivers State Sector Command, Andrew Kumakpayi, spoke in
Port Harcourt during a health programme organized for tanker drivers in
conjunction with Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, and Medical Women’s
Association of Nigerian, MWAN.
Kumapayi expressed happiness that the compliance level of vehicle owners
in the state to the speed limiting device was encouraging.
He urged motorists to install the device before the deadline elapsed,
saying: “We have arrested close to 2,600 vehicles. About 30 percent of
motorists have their device installed already. They have a time line to
install the device. After the deadline, people who fail to comply will
be sanctioned. Anyone we arrest will pay a fine of N50,000 or be
prosecuted. We have cared for drivers because we want drivers to drive
safely on the roads. Most drivers do not have time to go for medical
attention so there is need to provide this help for them to check their
sugar level.”
