APC crisis

Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State was conspicuously absent at the final leg of the South -West reconciliatory meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in Lagos on Wednesday.

The Lagos reconciliatory meeting was expected to listen to grievances from stakeholders from Lagos and Ogun States after similar interventions for those from Ondo, Ekiti, Osun and Oyo States.

At the meeting held at the State House, Marina, Lagos, neither Amosun nor any member of his camp was sighted at the reconciliatory meeting.

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Suraj Adekumbi and a governorship aspirant of the party in the state, Jimi Lawal, however, attended the meeting.

The committee also met with party chieftains from Lagos including: former Deputy Governor of the state, Abiodun Ogunleye; members of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council (GACi), the party's candidate in Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and others.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State who is also a member of the committee, alluded to the crisis rocking the Ogun State chapter of the party and appealed to those aggrieved to  accept the overtures extended to them.

He urged the party to consider compensation for aggrieved members to cover their loses.

His words: “We should be able to compensate people for us to have peace. I believe at the end of this session, we should have moved some inches forward towards reconciliation and afterwards compensation.”

Governor Kashim Shettima reiterated his appeal to aggrieved aspirants to take a cue from Governor Ambode and forget the past and begin to galvanize support for the party to ensure total victory at the polls.

“It will be grave for any party to ignore you all and take your loyalty for granted because loyalty begets loyalty.

“Winning next year’s election requires collective efforts. Even President Muhammadu Buhari cannot boast that he can do it alone.”
